WILL JARVIS bagged a brace to earn York Schoolboys Under-11s a 2-1 win at Sheffield.
The early exchanges saw Tom Eaton, Alfie Evans and Liam White hold firm at the back as York battled against the wind with the midfield trio of Elliot Oliver, Jimmy Gore and Alex Kemp also prominent.
That laid the foundation for Jarvis to make the breakthrough on eight minutes when he calmly lobbed the on-rushing home goalkeeper from 15 yards, having controlled a lofted pinpoint pass from Luke Jones.
Sheffield responded by converting a softly awarded penalty for handball with Nathan Storr sent the wrong way.
A fine save by Storr kept the visitors level before a great run down the left wing by Kemp won York’s first corner, from which Jones headed narrowly over.
During the second period, following some great defending by Simeon Hopkinson, Bankole Claudius-Cole was released down the right and his inviting cross was headed against the inside of a post by Jarvis.
Oliver, Jarvis and Jones all went close before York regained their lead.
Oliver and Gore combined with the latter putting a great ball through to Jarvis who finished with a stunning strike.
Evans was named York’s man of the match.
In-form York U13s won 3-0 at South Nottingham.
Dan Moll prompted astutely from midfield, while Ben Buck led the attack with power and pace, though it was only in the last ten minutes that York’s supremacy was translated into goals.
Many chances were spurned until Jacob Little, joint man of the match with Joe Allerton, netted twice in as many minutes.
Moll added a third goal and York were home and dry.
