A CHARITY set up in memory of a young brain-tumour victim from York is going vintage for a fun day next month.

The event at Joseph Rowntree School on Saturday, April 5, is in aid of the Smiley Riley Fund, formed in honour of Riley Plant, from Burnholme, who died in September 2012 aged just 21 months after bravely fighting with a rare and incurable brain tumour.

The fund helps to pay the living and travel costs of parents and carers whose children are undergoing chemotherapy and has raised more than £72,000.

Its fun day, between 11am and 3pm, includes a vintage tea party in the school and music from down the decades from Mickey Ramsbottom and the Alka Seltzer Sisters.

There will be races for children aged between two and 11, with all participants getting a prize, a fun tent, sumo suit wrestling, craft and vintage stalls, a bouncy castle and other rides and attractions, as well as appearances from the Shepherd Youth Brass Band and the Reflex Dance Team.

The fun day also has car boot sale spots available, costing £10. Admission to the fun day is £1 for adults and 50p for children, and helpers are needed.
