GREEKS, Romans and Tudors gathered at a York school for a celebration of literacy.
Pupils at Archbishop of York CE Junior School in Bishopthorpe took part in the literacy-themed day, with each year group coming to school dressed up in the period they were studying in class.
From year 3 to year 6, there were Greeks, Romans, Tudors and an eclectic range of Britons from the 1930s onward.
Alongside the 244 pupils in fancy dress, head teacher Jonathan Green also dressed up as a 1930s cricketer.
The activities of the day were all history based but enabled the children to write about the characters they were portraying in their respective periods and involved a lot of drama.
Mr Green said: “The children had a fabulous day. The activities really put some meaning into their writing. They produced some great pieces throughout the day and really got into their roles.”
