PUPILS at two schools in York have taken part in a new energy-saving campaign.
The students of Huntington Primary School and Clifton with Rawcliffe School took part in the pilot of the Kid Power project, working with specialist teachers on sustainability and green energy experts to look at how they can use less energy.
Under the project, the children installed energy meters in classes and in their homes, and encouraged to take the energy saving ideas out of the classroom.
Councillor Dave Merrett, City of York Council’s cabinet member for planning, transport and sustainability, said: “Educating children at a young age can really benefit the awareness of saving energy later on in life. On average a home could save about 20 per cent on their energy bills just by switching things off when they weren’t in use and it is small pieces of advice like this can really help residents to make significant savings annually on their energy bills.”
