CALLS for a mandatory minimum distance between wind turbines and the nearest homes will be made by the council’s Conservative group on Thursday.
Derwent councillor Jenny Brooks’ motion says the council’s draft Local Plan should require all turbines 15m high or larger to be at least 1.5km away from “any habitation”, unless landowners and residents say otherwise.
It also says masts of any size should be at least 350 metres from public footpaths or bridleways.
The Local Plan has proposed a string of potential “renewable energy” sites on the edge of York.
Coun Brooks said turbines have “an unacceptable visual impact” on York’s landscape and the Local Plan should include a “buffer” rule to protect communities. Strensall Coun Paul Doughty said residents must have “the final say” on wind turbine development.
