A GROUP has been set up by residents in Tang Hall, York, to decide how to use £1 million of lottery funding.
The Press first reported in late 2012 that the Big Lottery Fund was providing the cash, with residents expected to come together to use it for anything from training and employment schemes to tackling antisocial behaviour, creating new community facilities or providing more activities for young people.
The Tang Hall Big Local steering group is now helping the area develop a community plan to set out how the money should be spent, with a community consultation event held at Burnholme Community College to give local residents and groups a chance to have their say.
Steering group chair Anna Bialkowska said: “We are really keen to support community projects that benefit residents in Tang Hall.
"Big Local is all about local residents coming together to help make their communities even better places to live and we are working to get local people involved. Our grants scheme will help with this and at the same time will support lots of different activities in our local community."
Group member Rose Kent said: “We want everyone in Tang Hall to have their say about what should be done with the Lottery Funding to improve the lives of people who live and work there. Anyone with a good idea for a local project that fits with the aims of Big Local should contact us.
"Application packs for the grants are available from Tang Hall Community Centre or by contacting the Chair of the Tang Hall Big Local Steering Group at annatanghall@gmail.com or by ringing 07801 496247.
