A NEW project to get children and young people working outdoors is launching at community centres and York nature reserve.
WORMZone – Wild Outdoors and Recycling Matter – sessions will be run in Tang Hall and Bell Farm for seven to 18-year-olds, with activities including gardening, bush survival, and graffiti workshops.
They are part of a two-year long Health Lottery-funded scheme designed to get children and communities active outdoors and learning about sustainability issues, which is being launched by the Friends of St Nicholas Fields and York Playspace.
Project officer Catherine Bamford said: “This is a really exciting project and we can’t wait to get started.
“The activities outside will be complimented by sessions on film-making, cooking and craft-making.”
The term-time sessions are held at the York Playspace Chillout Zones on Tuesdays at Tang Hall Community Centre and on Wednesdays at 68 Centre on Monkton Road, from 4.30-5.30pm starting tomorrow – Wednesday, March 26 – when youngsters can plant raspberry canes ready for eating later in the year.
Holiday sessions will be held at St Nicholas Fields Nature Reserve. More information is available from 01904 411821 or email catherine@stnicksfields.org.uk
