PEOPLE in York who are heart patients or first time riders can get help to prepare for the Heart of York Bike Ride.

The ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) on September 7, has either a 22 mile flat route taking in Strensall Common, or a 40 mile, route which includes the common as well as the Howardian Hills, Castle Howard, a tough ascent at Hovingham and descent at Terrington Bank towards York.

The Prepare to Ride Programme (P2R) is being set up York St John University, University of York and the BHF ahead of the ride to specifically help people who have heart disease or have never ridden in an event before.

A P2R open day will be held at York St John University on May 26, when potential riders can drop in for a free 45-minute advice session between 11am and 3.30pm.
