STUNT bikers wowed pupils at a York school whose cycling and scooting efforts secured the acrobatic visit.
Hundreds of children at Yearsley Grove Primary School took part in The Big Pedal 2014, organised by sustainable transport charity Sustrans, this month as they, their parents and their teachers were challenged to use bikes and scooters rather than cars as their route to school.
The school was named best local newcomer, its prize being a playground appearance by the World Champion trials bike display team, and was 76th out of 965 schools nationally. Headteacher Eve Morris said: "It was absolutely amazing - the children were completely inspired by them.
"Every day during the Big Pedal, at least 40 per cent of children and parents came to school on bikes or scooters, and we're still seeing a big increase. It was a fun challenge to take part in and, because we did so well, we are now looking to become a Bike It school."
