MORE than forty years after she left school, Barbara Anderson is finally going to her prom.
Barbara, who turns 60 later this month, has watched in envy as each of her grandchildren has set off their proms, but has had to wait until now to experience one of her own.
“We didn’t have proms when I left school, so I have always joked that I would have a prom for my 60th,” Barbara, from Acomb, said.
But Barbara’s daughters Kirstie and Shelli took their mother at her word and pulled out all the stops to organise the party of her dreams in time for her big birthday.
The Crescent Working Men’s Club on Saturday night, was packed out with family and friends, all resplendent in their outfits.
"It was absolutely fantastic," said Barbara, who chose a pale blue sequinned two piece outfit with matching boots for her special evening. "I couldn't have asked for anything better. Everyone enjoyed it. We want to start a new trend of proms for Nannas.”
She added that it wasn't expensive. All the family bought their outfits off the internet with a top price of £40.
