NORTH Yorkshire pair Martyn Turner and Terry Temple both narrowly missed out on a place in next month’s PDC German Darts Masters.
Turner was denied a spot in the Berlin tournament after losing to former World Championship quarter-finalist Paul Nicholson 6-4, while Whitwell-on-the-Hill’s Temple also fell at the final hurdle and by the same scoreline to Ross Smith.
Earlier victories saw York’s Turner overcome Daryl Gurney (6-3) and Gary Stone (6-4) and Temple defeat Josh Payne (6-1) and Paul Amos (6-5).
In the latest Players Championship stages at Crawley, Turner was whitewashed by Premier League ace Robert Thornton after beating Tomas Seyler 6-3 in the first tournament.
He then bowed out 6-4 to William O’Connor during the following day’s first round.
Temple lost to world number 17 Ian White 6-4 after beating Wayne Pepper 6-2 and went on to suffer a 6-2 first-round reverse to two-time World Championship finalist Mervyn King.
