ANYTHING that can help to prevent river tragedies like those we have seen in the past few weeks would be a great step forward.
The banks are too high near where Ben Clarkson was found. I mentioned this to the rivers authority 20 years ago. The answer I got back was that there are lifebelts in the area to use.
My point was people throw them in so they are not always available when needed. Even if you were saved by a lifebelt and or were a strong swimmer, you still can’t get out – so what about having ladders fastened to the walls?
You would need something to hold onto and to climb out with, if possible.
Surely the ladders would be a simple solution.
Although it’s true that all individuals have a responsibility to look out for themselves, you simply cannot put a price on life.
