WE SEE a lot of Vikings in York, but Gavin Aitchison’s report on the British Museum’s exhibition “Vikings: Life and Legend”, incorporating some of the treasures from York (The Press, March 21), must have raised a lot of people’s interest, even in our city and the surrounding areas with our Viking past.
Perhaps Gavin was unaware that it’ll be possible to see “Vikings: Life and Legend” in a broadcast from the British Museum, live by satellite to City Screen on April 24, with an ‘encore’ screening on April 28.
While I’m sure nothing can beat a visit to see these artefacts in the flesh, and see the other displays at the British Museum, the cinema experience can save you the time and expense of travelling to London, and you get the added value of an introduction from the museum director Neil MacGregor and the screening presented by historian and broadcaster Michael Wood.
The exhibition will be further brought to life by curators Gareth Williams and Tom Williams, alongside experts on Viking ships, swords, burials, beliefs, language and legacy.
So, if you want to see this exhibition in the comfort of your own city , book early at the Coney Street box office. No booking fees apply on 0871 902 5726 or at picturehouses.co.uk/york
