A TRIO of winning rinks helped York Indoor Bowls Club to beat Leeds 103-51 to finish a creditable third in the North East Ladies League.
At home, Pat Bracken's team scored a maximum eight on their sixth end to take the score to 15-1.
Apart from a minor slip, where they dropped seven shots over four ends late on, they controlled the game and won 32-11.
Barbara Dawson's side lost their first two ends then won eight in succession to lead 11-2 before pulling away, scoring two fours then a six on their way to a 30-13 victory.
Away, Sheila Turpin's team were never threatened, leading 14-3 after nine ends. They scored a six to put the final result beyond doubt, with their game finishing 30-9.
Ex-York player Hazel Knapton secured Leeds' only winning rink, but only just as Pat Potter's team came from 14-8 down to go into the last chasing a three to draw when the score stood at 14-11.
However, thy were outdone by a home side who scored a four and won 18-11.
York appear in the Mason Trophy semi-final this evening when they play Norwich side County Arts at Northampton IBC.
If successful, they will play either Egham or Adur in the final tomorrow at 9.30am.
The Yorkshire Over-55s Challenge Cup will be played next Thursday at New Earswick IBC, starting at 10am.
It will feature division one champions Featherstone 'A', runners-up York 'A', third-placed Redcar and division two champions Hornsea.
