THE Conservative group’s proposal (Letters, March 24) of a mandatory distance of at least 1.5km between the site of a wind turbine and any habitation, in order to be logically consistent, would have to be deemed to apply in reverse.
Any parish council or group wishing to preserve the green belt would then be able to choose between having a wind turbine or a housing development sited near them.
Permission for the installation of a wind turbine can include the provision of subsidised electricity to the local community, which might make this option the more attractive.
Does Coun Jenny Brooks intend to include the siting of fracking shale-oil wells in her motion, since these demand much more substantial transport infrastructure; and would planning permission for such wells include the requirement to make subsidised gas available locally?
