A TEAM of up to 80 students from the University of York is to take part in a worldwide NASA event to help in the exploration of space.

The Space Apps Challenge is set to take place simultaneously over 48 hours in cities across the world on April 12 and 13.

Teams will work together at 83 host locations to develop solutions for some of the challenges facing the American space agency along five themes – technology in space, human space flight, asteroids, Earth watch and robotics.

York’s event is organised and run by PhD students from the Department of Computer Science, including Pedro Ribeiro, who said: “Anyone who has an interest in space or Earth-related sciences can get involved and work with others to develop their skills and make a difference to human space travel and exploration.”
