MORE young people are in education and training in York than anywhere else in the north east and North Yorkshire.
New figures show that 93.1 per cent of youngsters aged 16 and 17 in York were in education and training in December 2013 - up by 0.5 per cent on the previous year.
The percentage is higher than the national average of 89.8 per cent, and is the highest in the region.
It compares with just 87.3 per cent in Middlesbrough and 90.2 per cent in North Yorkshire, although that figure is 13.5 per cent higher than a year earlier. Better tracking of young people is thought to account for the significant rise in North Yorkshire.
Skills Minister Matthew Hancock claimed Government measures were reaping rewards, including new traineeships and an expansion of apprenticeships.
