I WONDER how many of readers have endeavoured to establish communications with the heirarchy of North Yorkshire Police (NYP).

I first wrote to the then-Chief Constable in 2004 over excessive speeding on the A63 through the village of Cliffe.

I never received any response from the top tier of NYP management. Yes, I did get several emails from lower-ranking officers before communication ceased.

Another letter in 2013 resulted in a traffic sergeant becoming involved and a meeting. No notes were taken at our meeting, however there was a string of emails.

As there was no discernible improvement in the speeding issue I asked for my concerns to be escalated up the chain of command.

Having received notification that the issue had been escalated to inspector level, all communication ceased.

My latest letter, sent mid-February, was directed to our Police and Crime Commissioner (P&CC). Apart from a couple of inquiring emails from the P&CC’s office, nothing more has been heard.

My impression of the police is that they operate in isolation, not really understanding the need to communicate with the general public. What a sad state of affairs.
