PLANS to ensure the Tour de France leaves a lasting legacy for Yorkshire have been welcomed by Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones.
As vice-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Grand Depart in Yorkshire, he was part of a team which secured an extra £10 million towards Yorkshire hosting the famous cycle race this summer.
Tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire has unveiled its aims for building on the event through its Cycle Yorkshire initiative, and Mr Jones said: “Following the London Olympics, we saw huge investment in sport, and we need to see that kind of legacy replicated in Harrogate and Knaresborough, and the rest of Yorkshire too.”
