YORKSHIRE county player Brian Dawson kept up his outstanding form in the fourth Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship by making it four out of four in the Red Dragon Darts UK-sponsored event.
Dawson started his day with legs of 13, 17 and 17 darts, but could have been dispatched by York’s Richie Corner in the first round. Corner fired a 16-darter but then missed a 61 finish to inflict Dawson’s first defeat in this year’s event.
Dawson’s route to the final included 13 and 14-dart legs in a victory over Trevor Day, then a 3-1 victory over York’s Chris Thompson, a 3-2 win over PDC player Mark Lawrence and a 4-1 success against Ray Mcinally in the semi-finals.
Dawson, finishing with a 91.65 average, added legs of 14 and 19 darts plus a 136 finish for a 12-darter and another 14-dart leg to defeat York’s Craig Wedge 5-0 in the final.
Wedge, with a 180 for 15, plus legss of 16 and 18 darts, beat Pickering’s Bill Hague (16, 18) 4-3 in the second semi-final and an 18-dart leg was the highlight of his 3-2 quarter-final win over Steve Vine.
The other quarter-final results saw McInally (17, 18, 20) end Cameron Spiller’s run and Hague defeated Neil Hart (16) 3-2.
Other legs of note were from Spiller (17, 18), Chris Mathews (15), John Quantock (13), Lord (15), Andy Harland (16) Mark Herron (18, 18), Lawrence (16, 15), Trevor Day (17), Thompson (13, 19), Scott Bennett (17, 12), Chris Quantock (15, 17), Nick Harteveld (19), Vine (18), Paul Cooper (19, 16), Hart (15, 18, 18), Hague (17, 17), Mark Hartley (16) and Gary Wensley (14).
A total of 16 180s were recorded with Cooper leading the way with three, Hart, Lawrence, Wedge and King firing two each and Lee McManus, Harteveld, Mathews, Peter Rushby and Harland adding one apiece.
The highest checkout was Mark Lawrence’s 144, followed by Lord’s 141, Dawson’s 136 and Chris Quantock’s 109. Russ King hit finishes of 115 and 114.
