THE residents of this city need to remember the behaviour of this council. Within weeks of taking control, Union Terrace car park was nearly sold by James Alexander.
The Beckfield Tip was closed, creating longer polluting journeys to Hazel Court. A small fortune is paid out to replace perfectly good office furniture just to prettify new offices. King’s Square is vandalised at a cost of half a million pounds.
The Tour de France turns out to be a huge financial burden.
Heworth Stray is advertised as a camping ground without consultation, at the same time as legal campsites are refused permission for extra pitches.
An arts barge that nobody asked for is floated while valued community centres are sunk.
Lendal Bridge is one huge fiasco.
Nothing is ever thought through.
No one ever admits a mistake or takes responsibility for it.
The profligacy continues unabated while basic essential services are cut.
The rates go up year-on-year as a result of local mismanagement – and it is all blamed on the Government. So citizens, when you vote next year do not forget who has taken your money and made your life a misery.
Mr D Wardell, Malton Road, York.
