STUCK for things to do with the kids over the Easter break? How about a bit of messing about on the seashore?
Enjoying the North Yorkshire coast isn't all about buckets and spades and sun-loungers. Rock-pooling - searching for shrimps and crabs and tiny marine fish trapped in rock pools when the tide goes out - can be great fun, too.
And if you and your children don't know what to look for, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust can help.
The trust's Living Seas Centre at South Landing, Flamborough, will be running a series of events throughout the Easter holidays to keep you and your children busy.
They include seashore safaris, in which experts will take you rock-pooling and help you identify the amazing marine life you find; and scavenger hunts, in which you'll look for treasures washed up on the shore, and learn about protecting the seas and oceans.
There will also be a guided walk along the shore at South Landing to look out for the signs of spring; and a 'fossil road show' at which you'll be able to find out about the marine life of long ago.
"Our events are a fantastic platform to showcase the amazing marine wildlife found on the Yorkshire Coast and a wonderful opportunity for all ages to discover Yorkshire’s marine and coastal wildlife first hand”, said Kat Sanders, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Fisheries and Wildlife Officer.
All the events are suitable for families and young children. But they will be popular, so booking is essential. Call the Trust on 01904 659570 or email info@ywt.org.uk to book your place on any of the events below:
