A SUPERMARKET chain has won permission to install signs on its new store which will be part of the redevelopment of York’s White Swan Hotel, at the second attempt.
Sainsbury’s was denied permission to fit signs to the historic Piccadilly building last year after council planners said they were too large and would damage the site’s appearance, but the firm submitted fresh proposals which have now been approved.
Work on the building, which will see its upper floors converted into flats, is continuing and the store will create the equivalent of 20 full-time jobs.
