COUNCILLORS will present their final report into how York’s early-evening economy can be livened up at a meeting next Monday.
A City of York Council task group has been looking at ways of tackling a “lull” in city-centre activity between 5pm and 8pm and has made a series of recommendations to draw more residents and visitors into York during these times.
It says the Labour cabinet should encourage large heritage and cultural attractions to offer their spaces to smaller entertainment groups, and that festivals and markets should stay open until 8pm with buskers and street entertainers urged to also perform until this time.
More open-air performances and the revival of “dry discos” for teenagers have also been recommended.
The group said better information and listings about York events needs to be provided. Their report goes before the council’s corporate and scrutiny management committee next Monday.
