FASHION retailer Fat Face are planning to move to a larger store in York city centre.
The company could be set to move into larger premises in the former Waterstones store on High Ousegate.
The retailer has applied for planning permission for new signs outside the shop at 28-29 High Ousegate, and signs at the shop's existing branch just 100 yards down High Ousegate at number 13 say the unit's lease is for sale due to relocation.
Designers from agency Box of Frogs have been commissioned to create the layout and signage plans for the new shop, and have submitted a design and access statement for the former Waterstones unit .
The statement says: "Fat Face have proposed cosmetic works to the ground floor for sales areas with the first floor to also be utilised for storage facilities and staff amenities.
"The shopfront proposals are sensitive to the history of this site and feature timber joinery and a traditional dark grey palette in line with that of the existing unit."
As a listed building, the shop unit is subject to tight controls on what cosmetic and structural alterations can be carried out.
It fell vacant at the end of April when the book giant moves to new premises on Coney Street, after 20 years in the High Ousegate location.
No planning application have been submitted for the current Fat Face store at 123 High Ousegate, and the company was not available for comment.
Meanwhile, Primark bosses are remaining tight-lipped on their intentions to move into the city.
As The Press reported in August last year, the retailer was in talks to take over the former Marks and Spencer store on Pavement, and another vacant unit at Monks Cross.
But a spokesman declined to comment on the situation at the moment, saying the company does not speculate on future store openings.
