RESIDENTS have been urged to join a new Neighbourhood Watch scheme in a Selby village.
Selby District Council members David and Kay McSherry have organised advertising space on Arriva buses to spread the word about the Cliffe scheme.
The councillors will also be delivering leaflets explaining the scheme to 375 homes in the village, and hope there will be enough support in Cliffe to start a reinvigorated Neighbourhood Watch.
Coun McSherry said: "We need to get the message across that people need to get together and look after each other.
"We are going to leaflet the village and Arriva have been very good letting us put leaflets on 40 of their buses.
"The Neighbourhood Watch scheme can make a real contribution to keeping crime and antisocial behaviour low.
"Police and community integration is the future for society and future generation.
"Hopefully, enough people will be interested, and we can have a meeting at the village hall."
A further scheme is planned for Osgodby in the spring.
If you are interested in joining the Cliffe scheme, phone PC Richard Cross on 01977 663071, or Coun McSherry on 01757 630283.
