Tadcaster Grammar School marked the Tour weekend with flags and bicycles on the lawn in front of Toulston.
Four themed bicycles and four symbolic flags representing Yorkshire, Great Britain, France and the Tour de France itself were the idea of geography teacher Robin Robson and Steve Smith, of the ICT department. Using bicycles from a recycling scheme, they were given a Grand Départ makeover by the site management team.
It was also a double Départ celebration for head teacher Geoff Mitchell, as he takes his leave after 16 years at the helm of Tadcaster Grammar School.
“While all around us are displaying bicycles, we at Tadcaster Grammar School wanted to take part and show our support for the Grand Départ,” said Mr Smith, who is also a keen cyclist and member and event organiser of the Yorkshire Road Club. “This event is a major coup for Yorkshire and something which may never be repeated in this area during our lifetime.”
