YELLOW jerseys and rail bikes will be out in force at the National Railway Museum as part of the attraction's Tour de France celebrations.
Staff have been getting ready for the event, including curator of museum collectionsJohn McGoldrick who is swapping his road bike for a velocipede - a vehicle of two or more wheels, powered by the rider which were developed to get inspectors and engineers around the rail tracks.
On Saturday and Sunday, visitors will be able to have a go at riding these quirky bikes, before watching the Grand Depart live on a big screen. There will be a rail bike demonstration.
John said: “I usually spend my time in the seat of a mountain bike, so to be sitting on a track experiencing a velocipede is a unique experience – all keen cyclists should come down and give it a go.”
