I WHOLLY concur with Mr Nicholson's letter (Parking on paths, January 15). But he overlooked a very important point, which deals with the abhorrent practice of pedestrians using footpaths for their own selfish ends - ie walking.

It is not enough that cyclists have to run the gauntlet of motor vehicles when forced onto the roadway.

The taxing job of having to weave in and out of thoughtless clusters of pedestrians on footpaths can put tremendous stress on bicycle frames and brakes, which could render the machine unroadworthy and maybe cause accidents.

I hope that the contents of this letter, and others of a similar ilk, attract the attention of our Member of Parliament, and lead to questions in the House.
