A MASSIVE clean up operation was under way today after gale force winds brought mayhem to Selby.
Gusts of up to 75mph stretched the emergency services to the limit as trains were cancelled, trucks overturned, and trees ripped out of the ground.
Long tailbacks were generated on the A19 and A63 bypass and thousands of villagers in Hemingbrough, Stillingfleet, Naburn and Escrick suffered power cuts due to the strong gusts.
As residents and businesses began cleaning up today, forecasters predicted that the worst of the storms were over.
