WHAT the good burghers of York would think is anyone's guess.
A city centre fast food restaurant has applied to City of York Council to be allowed to open until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays, serving burgers, fries and shakes until the early hours.
McDonalds, in Blake Street hopes if the new hours are approved it will lead to a McFlurry of customers.
But a spokesman for McDonalds said burger buffs and McNugget maniacs will not be able to munch their favourite meal while watching the sun come up.
He said that although the application is for 5am the restaurant will actually only open until 2am. But with pubs and clubs opening later and later the option will be there for the restaurant to extend its opening hours if the application is approved.
He said McDonalds was submitting similar licensing applications across the UK. With pubs and clubs opening later, people are out later and there are only a limited number of places they can go to eat.
The stereotypical choice of food for drinkers late at night is the kebab, but if McDonalds gets its way a whole new range of food will be open to revellers including salads and toasted sandwiches. If the Blake Street McDonalds eventually does decide to open until 5am it might even be possible for people to have a Bacon McMuffin for breakfast before they even go to bed.
John Lacy, licensing manager at City of York Council, said representations from people regarding the application must be in by February 12. If no representations are received it will be automatically passed.
