Heworth ARL Club's Under-16s lost 22-14 to Slaithwaite Saracens but could take heart from a spirited performance in which Sam Bradley, Tom Hirst and Josh Bolam played a key role.

Heworth made an encouraging start but Saracens hit back to go eight points up.

Heworth rallied and Jamie Locker, making a welcome return to the side, scored a smart try before Sam Bradley crossed.

Poor play allowed Slaithwaite to increase their lead to 14-8 at half-time and, after Heworth began the second half well, the visitors responded with a long-range try.

Jake Ripley powered over for Heworth but Slaithwaite completed the scoring.
