VALE Radio, York’s newest radio station, went live on Monday.
The station, which broadcasts from Haxby Memorial Hall, was opened by Outer York MP Julian Sturdy.
It broadcasts 24 hours a day reaching a potential 770,000 listeners.
Vale Radio supports interviews and schemes which serve local interests and has just become partners with York City Knights.
Former BBC local radio presenters Chris Marsden, Sandie Dunleavy and Dougie Weake all have shows on the station.
Mr Weake said: “Vale Radio is a proper community radio.
“We are committed to bringing the community together, particularly the outlying districts that no one hears about.
“We want to find out what is going on and we want to help people. We are their voice.
“Another interesting fact is that 67 per cent people in the UK are listening to radio online.”
Vale Radio is currently available on the smart phone app TuneIn Radio or at www.thevaleonline.com
