Jo Wade and Jane Colley led University Staff Ladies to a superb 6-3 win at Nestle Rowntree in ladies division one of the York Badminton League.
Wade and Colley turned in their best display of the season to return 127-97, which included a tough 21-17, 22-20 win over Brenda Drummond and Shelley Tatterton.
Clifton B' kept on track to challenge Selby/Drax A' at the top of men's two with a 9-0 thrashing of RI Tuesday/ Thursday B'. Phil Sinton and Paul Waterhouse led the way with three wins for 127-87.
St John's beat a gritty Selby/Drax B' 5-4 in men's two. Ian Waters and Steve Lawson took the match-winning student maximum to return 129-104, including the 24-22, 21-18 final rubber clincher against Richard Summers and Stuart Baxter.
Clifton B' opened their mixed one account with a 7-2 win over Selby/Drax A'. Duncan Coulson and Heather Clarke had their best series so far with a return of 129-91, including a 21-15, 24-22 win over the dangerous Selby pair of Scott Anderson and Michelle Hall.
James Dawson and Penny Baines took all three Selby Jubilee wins in their 6-3 defeat at Riverside A' in mixed one. Their return of 163-140 included a fine 21-12, 16-21, 22-20 over the number one Riverside pairing of Geoff Oxley and Margaret Sinclair.
Nestle Rowntree A' ended Tadcaster 86 A's good run in mixed two with a 7-2 success. Phil Grant and Helen Shepherd turned back the years with a maximum which included a tough 21-19, 21-23, 23-21 win over the rarely beaten pairing of Phil Zealand and Liz Rowlatt.
Riverside B' were good value for a 7-2 win at Nestle Rowntree B' in mixed three. Talented teenager Alex Fowler, partnered by Natalie Jones, did the damage with a superb return of 126-53.
Mixed three leaders RI Tuesday/Thursday A' saw off Fulfordgate A' 9-0. Ian Sinker and Susie Maddison again topped the RI returns with three straight wins for 127-89.
Fulfordgate B' scored their second mixed four win with a 5-4 success at YUSC B'. Tony Foster and Rachel Adamson took three staff club wins for 152-148, but John and Joanne Maule kept their nerve in the final rubber to beat Keith Locker and Yvonne Pearson 18-21, 21-19, 21-9 and win the match for the visitors.
Simon Benson and Lynne Redman hit top form as Selby Jubilee beat a tough Shepherds B' 6-3. The duo put on their best display of the season to return 147-113 in the only maximum of the match.
A good team display brought Tadcaster 86 B' a 5-4 win at Market Weighton in mixed five. Kevin Marshall and Miriam Beales starred for Weighton with all three wins for 145-101, but Geoff Gill and Maria Parks swung the match for the visitors with a last rubber 18-21, 21-14, 22-20 win over Sue Smith and Steve Wightman.
