The first 500 visitors received a goodie bag filled with all sorts of energy-saving items. And there were 200 energy efficient jug kettles for older visitors.
There were also competitions galore, including a chance to win one of many energy efficient kitchen appliances worth hundreds of pounds.
Live demonstrations of energy efficient improvements were carried out on the day and visitors were able to get a close look at the latest in cycling technology and ride in an LPG (liquid petroleum gas) powered car.
In fact, visitors were encouraged to do their bit for sustainable transport with the promise of a free low energy light bulb if they turned up on their bikes.
There were plenty of activities for the kids too, with a treasure trail around the gardens, a colouring competition and fun with face-painting.
On a more serious note, York Energy Efficiency Advice Centre staff were on hand with advice and information to help save energy and money on your fuel bills.
