Do you want to help the environmentand save money too? Your Energy Efficiency advice Centre can help you Did you know that more than half the heat you pay for goes out to heat the sky and the street?

That York households waste £3 million each year because they haven't insulated their roofs or walls?

That's 50,000 tonnes of CO2 pumped out at the power station - needlessly. That's enough to fill York Minster 82 times over.

If your house is letting you down, help is at hand.

The Energy Efficiency Advice Centre for York can open your eyes to simple yet effective ways to save money and, in doing so, benefit the environment.

UK households use about one quarter of all energy used in the UK. You can't see it, but every household produces six tonnes of CO2 - the main greenhouse gas which causes global warming - every year!

And week in, week out, households produce six times as much CO2 as the rubbish they actually can see going out in the dustbin. Much of this is from energy that is wasted.

In order to reduce this wastage and promote energy efficiency the Government supports a network of 52 advice centres to help householders lower their energy load.

The Centre for York, North Yorkshire and East Riding was one of the first to be set up in 1993. Since then the centre has helped over 50,000 households save energy and money. York has one of the best energy Efficiency Advice Centres in the country - recently awarded the prestigious Charter Mark award for the quality of its service. Energy efficient products and services are available through the Energy Partnership, a project based at the centre.

"People often put off taking steps to save energy in their homes because of cost or simply because they don't know who to trust to carry out the installation" says Megan Remmer, assistant manager of the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. "The advice centre offers discounted prices as well as high standards of customer care. We are supported by the nine local authorities in the area, including the City of York Council."

Householders can take advantage of a range of energy saving goods and services including, loft and cavity wall insulation, central heating systems, replacement boilers, A'-energy-rated kitchen appliances, solar powered garden products, electric and mixer showers and low energy lightbulbs.

With the backing of the advice centre and your local authority, you know that you can put your trust in the project as well as benefit from a discount at the same time.
