THE City of York Council is wholeheartedly behind the PlanetYork campaign.
Councillor Rod Hills, leader of the council, said, "We are delighted to be partners in this exciting new initiative which will show citizens across the country how much we can all achieve by each doing a little to work towards a more sustainable way of life and contribute to the wider goal of cutting down world emissions levels.
"York has already developed a reputation, founded upon the support of its residents, for spearheading different and more sustainable ways of living whether through our radical Local Transport Plan - which puts a focus on making it easier for citizens to use public transport - or our Local Agenda 21 campaign. We also run or support a variety of other projects including our Walking and Travelwise campaigns and York Energy Savers.
"Global warming and rising CO2 levels are problems without borders and I hope that PlanetYork will provide a model which other towns and cities across the globe can follow to start tackling the challenge."
