THE Yorkshire Air Museum is hosting the annual Allied Air Forces Memorial Day, complete with flypasts, this weekend.
Some 100 members of service associations from across the region will be parading at the museum in Elvington this Sunday, September 7 led by the Yorkshire Royal British Legion Marching Band and Corps of Drums.
Ian Richardson, communications manager, said: “We are delighted that Lord Crathorne KCVO, Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire will attending the event in his capacity as representative of HM The Queen, in what will be one of his last official engagements and we are looking forward to welcoming him to Elvington again.
“He will take the salute following the sunset ceremony which concludes the event with a flypast by Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.”
The service this year marks significant anniversaries, including the 70th Anniversary of the unique French squadrons which flew from RAF Elvington, where the museum is based. During the day, the museum will be running a number of live aircraft for visitors.
