YORK moved into the last 16 of the Yetton Plate with a surprisingly one-sided 120-47 victory over Blackpool Borough.

Helen Walker's rink set the tone for the match, winning the first nine ends in Lancashire to lead 20-0. She only lost four ends in total; winning 36-6.

Linda Harrison's team had a tougher game. Leading 11-2 after six ends, they trailed 19-15 with five ends to go, but won four of them to win 24-20.

At home, Carol Instone's four were never in danger, capitalising on a good start which saw them 13-1 up after five ends and going on to win 34-12.

Maureen Thomas' team had the edge, leading 11-7 after 12 ends before launching an onslaught, winning all but two of the remaining ends to take the game 26-9. York now play Durham next Thursday.

New Earswick moved back into contention in Yorkshire League division two with an exciting 87-84 victory over leaders Metrodome, picking up 15 valuable points.

At home, Dean Moss' team led 10-3 after six ends but by the tenth the scores were level at 12-12 and two ends later they trailed 15-14. Then the home side stepped up a gear and finished winning 24-20.

Barry Johnson's rink also had a good start, leading 15-2 after ten ends. The visitors clawed their way back and levelled at 18-18 on the 19th end. Two to Johnson's rink gave them the edge only for them to be deflated on the last by dropping a three to lose 21-20.

Ken Harrison's four had the upper hand for most of the game at Metrodome thanks to a good start, leading 13-2 after eight ends before they were brought down to earth between the 16th and 19th ends where they dropped ten shots to trail 20-17. However, a three followed by a two gave them a well deserved 22-20 victory.

Paul Dawson's team had a difficult first half, trailing 19-7. By the 18th they had levelled at 20-20 then the next two ends saw the sides trade singles. However, a two on the last gave the home side a 23-21 win.

New Earswick's next game is against leaders South Leeds a week on Saturday.

In Yorkshire League division one, York lost 72-68 to champions North Cave. Phil Emmerson's team had the edge for most of their game at home and ran out 22-12 winners.

Mark Clarke's team were comfortable until the last five ends where they lost four of them, dropping eight shots, but still won 20-16.

Paul Mooring's away rink trailed by one shot going into the last end, but couldn't get the vital shot and went down 17-15.

Frank Turner's team had an awful time despite winning the last four ends, scoring seven shots, going down 27-11.
