Forget the 'ettes', The Noisettes are just plain old noise.

Their debut album is fun at first: a new wave indie guitar deluge, pounding drums and energetic, screeching, bluesy vocals from Shingai.

The problem is the lack of variation; track after track marches head on into another cacophony of howls and catchy riffs.

Touring with Babyshambles and Muse, The Noisettes are likely to follow their own advice and "scratch their name into the fabric of this world".

Unfortunately scratch' seems all too appropriate.

However, if you can sustain angsty aggression for 35 minutes without suffering a headache, the playful hooks may reward you.

The Noisettes play Fibbers, York, on Saturday
