HERE are answers to some of the most frequently-asked questions about Race For Life. If you have another one that is not answered here, call the Race For Life hotline on 08705 134 314.

Do I have to run this course?

No. More than half the women who enter walk the 5km course.

How much sponsorship money should I try to raise?

Every woman is being asked to try to raise £50 for Cancer Research UK. The charity receives virtually no government support and relies overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as Race For Life to carry on its pioneering research into the treatment and prevention of cancers.

Why is there an entry fee?

This fee covers the administrative and organisational costs. It also enables all the sponsorship money to go straight to Cancer Research UK.

Where does my sponsorship money go?

Every penny you raise goes directly to Cancer Research UK, the biggest independent cancer research organisation in the world, to help find new answers to cancers that touch women's lives.

Can I do Race For Life as part of a team?

Yes, and lots of women do. If you are planning on entering as a team, you should nominate a team captain and ask them to register your team name by calling 08705 134 314. If your team has fewer than 50 people then every member should enter individually mentioning the team name, either over the phone or online at www.raceforlife.co.uk If your team is likely to have more than 50 people, let the organisers know when you register the team name and they will give you extra help with the entry process.

Can I bring children?

Children of all ages are welcome and the entry fee for under-18s is £4.50. However, all under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. Some of the races are very busy, in excess of 5,000 women, which is something to consider when bringing your children.

Please remember that, due to insurance regulations, Race For Life is unable to permit any prams, pushchairs, jogging buggies, roller skates, inline skates or pets on the course.

How do I pay in my sponsorshp money?

This year you can pay:* Online - www.raceforlife.co.uk
* Over the phone - call 08705 134 314
* By post - send cheques made payable to Cancer Research UK to: Race for Life, PO Box 50, Crawley, RH10 9WA.

Please send your sponsorship money by September 30, 2002. If you are paying money in for more than one person, remember to give the names and reference numbers of all those people.

Can I buy a Race For Life T-shirt?

If you are entering Race For Life 2002 then you can order your T-shirt when you enter. These are limited to one per entry and will not be sold at races.

What happens if it rains?

Race For Life is only cancelled if there are severe weather conditions.

Can I enter on the day?

No, there is no on-the-day entry in 2002.

Why is Race For Life for women only?

Quite simply, because that is what most of the women who take part in Race For Life want. Race For Life is a unique opportunity for women to come together and make a difference to cancers that touch women's lives in a non-competition and celebratory atmosphere. Race For Life is Cancer Research UK's only gender-specific fundraising event and men can be involved by supporting or volunteering on the day.
