A SMALL North Yorkshire village has re-lived the day it became a global star when the Tour de France pedalled through.
The world’s largest sporting event arrived in West Tanfield in the afternoon of July 5 – and just an hour before the bikes arrived so did three VIP guests, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Residents have now packed into the village hall to take in a special exhibition dedicated to the event and buy copies of a new commemorative book.
Hambleton District Council has produced a 60 page souvenir of ‘Le Tour de Tanfield’ packed with images of the community’s special day.
Profits from the £10 book, which also includes an exclusive CD of images, will be donated to the West Tanfield Fund, which organised the TDF celebrations. The book is on sale at West Tanfield Post Office and at Hambleton District Council’s Civic Centre in Northallerton.
