RYEDALE School's Under-16 and Under-13 boys are through to the regional finals of the English Schools Table Tennis Championships.
They travelled to Northfield School, Billingham for the North East zone finals and qualified for the regional competition because a team from Sunderland failed to turn up.
The U16 team had a comfortable 6-2 victory over Northfield School. Edward Fambely and Charlie Allott played the only Northfield player to win, Anthony Wright, currently ranked 30 in the England U18s.
Fambley played brilliantly against Wright and in a great display of topspins and counter topspins he took the third set having lost the first two by two points. Wright got off to a good start in the fourth, winning 11-8.
Luke Lunn won both of his sets for Ryedale without dropping a game. Team-mate Finn Needham beat Jonathon Riley 11-7 in the fifth.
Adam Ridley was due to play in the second match against Sunderland.
The Ryedale U13s quartet of James Mayne, Andrew Cavanagh, James Dunn and Andrew Howe lost 7-1 to St Michael's, Billingham.
Cavanagh narrowly lost his first set in five games, but Mayne won his first set to make the match score 1-1. Ryedale then lost the remaining sets but the games were close.
