YORK'S Under-18 team stole the show when they won the Yorkshire U18 Bowls League.
In their first game they beat Scarborough 37-18 with Adam Liddell's team winning 19-6, only losing three ends, while Adam Tattersall's side went from 11-11 to win 18-12.
As expected, Thornaby also won their first game, setting up the decider between the two teams with York needing to win by one point to claim the title.
Tattersall's rink got off to a flier, leading 10-1 after only five ends, though Thornaby weren't going to lie down without a fight. They pulled the score back to 12-10 with time for one end left, but the home side scored a two to win 14-10.
In the other rink, Josh Cahill swapped places with Liddell and by the fourth end they led 6-2 but by the ninth the scores were level at 8-8, though three winning ends out of the last four gave them a 15-9 win.
York now play in the Challenge Cup on Sunday, March 11 at Selby.
Scarborough stayed in the top flight after they beat South Leeds 29-24.
