Headlands have shot to the top of League C', leaving coach Pete Vasey happy with progress to date.
He said: "If the team can continue to play as a team, and not revert back to playing as individuals, they should be successful, as they are more than capable'.
Skipper Dan Gallagher has led the way for the Haxby-based school, while Nigel Holland's defensive performances have been solid. Joe Galloway and Alex Robinson have been influential in midfield with Owen Scott being exciting up front.
St Oswald's have been adopting their youth policy' this year with three Year 5 players in their team.
They have played all their games away from home while the grass on their brand new pitch grows and have managed one win..
Teacher Malcolm Murphy said: "We are back in schools football for the first time in a while. We will do well to avoid bottom spot. The standard in League C is very high."
However, striker Luke Pendall has been in great form and has already been spotted by Hull City and will be joining their academy.
Wigginton have been inconsistent but James Brown and Sam Hardy-Mayo have both performed superbly while Callum Hurst has caught the eye. Ben Turner and Michael Ellis look to be two players coming through the ranks and hoping to push for a place in the team next month.
Acomb reached the Champions League finals last year, but they will need to turn their hard fought draws into victories when the league resumes, if they are to repeat the feat.
So far they have drawn with St Oswald's, Yearsley Grove and Poppleton Road, and lost narrowly to leaders Headlands. In a league that is proving so close, a run of good results may see them pushing for another title.
In the cup, they won 1-0 at Huntington, and face a trip to fellow League C' school, Wigginton.
Poppleton Road's report card could read satisfactory' so far.
Having spent the whole of last season as the whipping boys in League B', the move to League C' has suited them better. The draw at Acomb gave them their first point, having tasted defeat against St Oswald's. However a remarkable 5-2 win at Headlands proved that anyone can beat anyone in this division.
However, St Oswald's again proved Poppy Road's nemesis in the cup, beating them 1-0.
Yearsley Grove have a win and a draw to their credit and their only defeat came on penalties.
Coach Trevor Marsden said: "We have a good squad at Yearsley Grove and we have a number of good players knocking on the door of the starting 7. The biggest challenge I have is team selection."
Louis Rawdon, although only a Year 5 player, has made a big impression at centre-half, showing real composure on the ball, and reading the game brilliantly.
