YORK Schools Under-12s footballers defied the cold and blustery weather to win 4-2 at Wakefield in their penultimate Yorkshire League game.
The first half started well for the York boys with great runs from Tom Allen and Elliot Frodsham down the left wing.
Striker Wilson Briggs (pictured above) was a constant threat with his speed, and with a constant stream of through-balls with the wind behind them York had the upper hand.
But they could not turn their domination into goals and just as their frustration was starting to show, they grabbed the lead on the half-hour mark.
Right-winger Harry McMillan spotted the Wakefield goalkeeper off his line and knocked the ball into the top corner.
Although they had managed only one goal playing with the wind, York still looked the better side after the break and played some exciting football.
Josh Poulter and man-of-the-match Jordan Calpin distributed the ball well from midfield and it wasn't long before Paul Winterburn netted York's second.
From the kick-off York were straight back in the Wakefield half and Lewis Rhodes showed a bit of magic to make it 3-0.
Two wind-assisted goals put Wakefield back in the match, but fittingly York had the final say when Calpin curled in a beauty of a corner which allowed Will Ravenhall to make it 4-2 - just reward for another display of disciplined football.
