Wigginton Primary School has been awarded an Activemark for the number of sports it offers.
The assessment is based on an annual school sport survey and is in recognition of the range and amount of sport provided, both within the curriculum and in extra-curriculum activities.
The Westfield Lane school offers swimming, football, netball, rugby, athletics, hockey, badminton, rounders, volleyball, dance and gymnastics, as well as an annual sports day.
Clubs are run by staff, parents and external coaches.
Activemark awards are open to schools which are part of a sport partnership - Wigginton is a member of the Jorvik Schools Sports Partnership.
The award lasts for 12 months and the school will be automatically reassessed for the 2007 award through the annual survey.
Wigginton School's PE co-ordinator Pat Amebury said: "We are delighted to have achieved the award. We believe sport to be an important part of a child's broader education and being within the partnership has enabled us to offer a wider range of activities."
