SHOCKED residents discovered the body of a man lying in a York street.
People living in Priory Street, off Micklegate, made the grim find on Saturday afternoon.
The body was found close to some bins, near the Priory Street Centre.
Police were called at about 4.40pm. Local residents said officers cordoned off the street while crime scene investigators examined the area - staying for about two hours.
But York CID said yesterday there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesman also told The Press that the man had yet to be identified.
Residents in the area told The Press of their shock and sadness that a man had died near their homes. Some said they had seen police vans in the area, but others said they had not even been aware of the drama while it was unfolding. Locals thought the dead man could have been in his 30s. One resident, who preferred not to be named, said he was in the area when the body was found.
"It was a bloke in his 30s. One police car turned up by itself, then there were three cars, a van and an ambulance in the street," he said.
A spokesman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics had attended, but did not take the man to hospital.
