AS a disabled person with mobility problems I progressed from an invalid car to a hand-controlled car and was therefore allowed a disabled parking permit.

I have been driving for more than 40 years. Recently, my mobility problems have become worse and I find it increasingly difficult to walk any distance.

I can honestly say that I have never been questioned about the use of the disc (Parking abuse, Letters, January 18) despite the fact that I would not be obviously disabled while sitting in my car. Neither do I have a wheelchair on show, as it is in the car boot.

I would not be offended if asked to prove my eligibility for the disc and feel sure that others would be happy to do so.

However, I find parking increasingly difficult as others misuse the system. I am aware that other disabilities are less obvious than mine, but feel that greater care should be taken to check on those parking illegally. It has been possible by law to fine these people, but I have yet to hear of this being enforced.

I would prefer not to have to use the privilege; I have no option.
