CITY of York Ladies lost 4-0 at North Women's Hockey League premier division high-flyiers Sheffield, who took the lead midway through the first half.
But City of York Ladies II fared better in division two of the Yorkshire League, winning 3-0 at home to Doncaster III.
Vicky Skilton put York on the way with a goal following a penalty corner, Sophie Watson's individual effort doubling the first-half advantage.
Helen Shilleto then set up Skilton, who scored her second goal with a reverse-stick shot to round off a good team performance with a deserved win.
In division four, City of York Ladies development team drew 2-2 at home to Salendine Nook, who scored early on, working the ball through York's defence.
Settling down, York then pressed hard and were eventually rewarded with second-half goals from Laura Mason and Becky Mason before Nook grabbed a late equaliser.
Goalkeeping problems hindered City of York Ladies IV in division five as they lost 7-0 at LA Metros IV.
